Was anyone else fortunate enough to witness the Airforce Thunderbirds and Navy Blue Angels fly above in tribute to our healthcare heroes yesterday?! All I can say is, WOW! It was quick but it certainly was powerful. Seeing everyone come together to honor those that are helping to keep us safe was both inspirational and uplifting. My fiance and I grabbed our masks, a blanket and a few snacks and sat beside the Delaware River and took in the moment. It’s a strange feeling to want to be present and create a memory in a time like this but this is the hand we were all dealt so we do what we need to in order to get through.  The river was lined with families, all respectably 6+ feet apart, of course, donned in their masks, cheering as the planes flew by. In a time where so much sadness, sickness and death are surrounding us, it was so powerful to see everyone coming together acknowledging the sacrifice put forth by our healthcare workers. Not to mention, it was so nice to be among other people (in a safe way!) after being at home for so long. In case you missed the flyover yesterday, below are two videos, one from myself and one from Ken. No matter where you watched, the sentiment was the same and the energy was palpable. It is clear, now more than ever, we, as a WORLD, are anxious to resume normalcy and we will be okay! If anyone else was able to catch a stellar video, send it our way! Marketing@toppersspa.com

You’re in for a treat today…Ken reenacts Rocky! Well, let’s be honest, he’s not going round for round in a ring so you’ll just have to settle for this blurry cell phone picture.

Just a heads up, towards the end of the week we’ll be moving our daily posts from here to a private Facebook group that you will have to request to join. When you’re in Facebook, search ‘Toppers Team’ and we will accept your request. We’re hoping to have everyone request to the join group by Thursday so Friday can be our first post on that page. If you have any questions or need help, as always, please feel free to email at marketing@toppersspa.com.

Stay safe and be well!

Hi everyone,

OK – I’m going back to Rocky, again!  Why?  I don’t know!  Squirrel!, maybe?

Funny … I told my wife I made a post on this site about Rocky.  She then told me … WOW.  When I went out for my run the other day, I ran the “Rocky steps”.  Otherwise known as the Art Museum steps. ? Then I was drawn to visit the Rocky statue.  Yes, Judi said I was losing it.  But hey, as Kali said-It’s Rocky!  Who doesn’t love Rocky?

And … just a little bit of trivia.  Our cherished nail technician in Philly, Mila, treated Sylvester Stallone.  She shared with me what a wonderful guy he was.  If I remember this correctly, Sly’s mom and Mila were both from the same town in Russia.  It was a cool story.

I just love this scene from Rocky Balboa.  Kind of timely.  Give it a watch.

Stay safe and Rocky strong.  Ken

Kens update 4

Hi everyone,

I’m just going to say it.  I’m going to ramble a bit on this post.  Hopefully it is coherent.  Hopefully you stick with me.

Judi and Kali will tell you I can quickly be hit by something.  Something I see.  Something I hear.  Sometimes it can be distracting.  More often it is inspirational.  A thought, an idea … a concept … gratitude.  For those that have seen Up (my favorite Pixar movie), I can be like Dug (yes, that is who I named my dog after) … “SQUIRREL!!!”

ANYWAY – today I made my liquor store run in NJ (don’t know if I should be posting that!). I went by myself.  While driving, I was blasting … way too loud for a 48 year old … Def Leppard Pyromania.  The greatest album in the history of albums. Yes, Abbey Road is a masterpiece. But it is NO Pyromania. So, I got to the store to get my preordered booze.  When I went to talk with the great guy rolling out the boxes of my booze, I turned off my car.  When I opened my back hatch, my phone must have reconnected to my car stereo.  BLASTING Photograph.  He looked at me, smiled … did a mini-head bang and said, “someone was jamming on the way here”.  I admitted I was.  He then asked if he could stay and enjoy the rest of the song.  How could I say no?

So – now, my journey down the rabbit hole.  It got me thinking about the power of music.  That had me thinking about how moved I was by this.  Don’t know if any of you watched Jersey 4 Jersey last week.  But this performance by THE BOSS and his wife was just amazing:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8hHfTEYt52w

Little known fact, I was born and raised in NJ.  I moved to Philly in 1989 to attend film school at Temple.  Don’t worry, your “leader” went back to get an MBA.  And as a NJ native, I was required to LOVE THE BOSS.

Further down the rabbit hole.  I never saw THE BOSS until my mid 20’s.  Just a “kid” working in the Toppers office.  Our former, beloved, manager Bill Murphy (I’m sure many of you remember him) took me to my first Springsteen show.  It meant a ton.  My second Springsteen show?  Our Toppers accountant (amazing guy) who sadly passed took me.  I got married at Richard’s house.  My wedding was officiated by a reverend that worked in our office.  Judi isn’t just my colleague, she is one of the best friends I will ever have.  I think Kara, owner of East Coast, is one of the kindest and sweetest people I’ve been fortunate enough to meet.

Further down the rabbit hole.  Where am I going with this?  Like I said I’m a “SQUIRREL!!!” guy.  Def Leppard lead me to THE BOSS.  THE BOSS lead me to my Toppers relationships.  Which lead me to reflecting on a beautiful and touching video submitted by our dear Dorothy in NJ.  Referencing the Toppers “family”. Dorothys message

Further down the rabbit hole.  It had me thinking how we need to keep our family strong and prepared to come out of this whole thing stronger and more connected than ever.  I know you don’t need my dime store version of Tony Robbins ramblings (actually, I’ve never really been a fan) as you guys are all so tight.  Just as Dorothy said.  Including your connections with your guests.  I know that – it is such an amazing thing.  But appreciated now more than ever.

That’s enough of my rant.  May you and your families be safe.  Ken

PS-I’ll get back to posting simple Disney videos this week ? I will also continue to post PRACTICAL info as I get it.  We are working hard.  Be assured of that.

Sunday, April 26, 2020

Happy Sunday! I hope everyone enjoyed the glorious weather yesterday because I’m not sure we’ll be seeing the sun anytime soon. Que the Netflix and Hulu shows. Or if you’re anything like Ken, the Disney and Star Wars movies. But don’t think our leader is a two trick pony with his obsession for only Disney and Star Wars…introducing Ken’s love of the Rocky series! I can’t really poke fun at this one because let’s be honest, Rocky is Rocky, and you don’t talk poorly about Rocky! Is there ANY song in the world that gets you pumped as much as the Rocky theme song?! Eye of the Tiger is a close second but let’s stay focused here. ROCKY. The motivation, strength and pride runs deep with this one. Check out Ken’s thoughts below.

Stay safe and be well!

Kali

Hi all,

So I just watched Rocky Balboa.  I am a sucker for Rocky movies…. Even Rocky V.  I’m not all Star Wars and Disney!

But the credit sequence got to me.  The real people on the steps of the art museum.  Feeling Philly proud. Pennsylvania proud. New Jersey proud.  Delaware proud.  I know it is so cheesy.  I KNOW!!! I’m embarrassed to say … we need to dig into our inner Rocky.  I’ll spare you all the Rocky quotes and just leave you with a crappy video of the Rocky Balboa end credit sequence. Hope you enjoy.

PS – Man, do I love our city. Our area.  Be Rocky strong.  See you soon. Ken

Hi everyone,

So – my sister and her family are deeply spiritual.  I love them all to death! I’m sure a number of you in Devon know my sister Becky.  Well … she has sent me a couple of messages from her pastor.  This one resonated with me a lot.  And, I hope you will find meaning in it.  I am, by no means, thrusting religion down your throat.  I’d be the least qualified to do so.  BUT, when a message makes sense – at the right time – it JUST MAKES SENSE.  YES, I read the book about 20 years ago.

Hope you are all safe and well.  Look out for your family and friends.  Ken

Friday, April 24, 2020

It’s Friday!!! Though does any day really have an identity anymore? Monday = Friday = Sunday it seems.

Has anyone seen the video below yet? If not, this will give you all the Philly pride feels. Something that I have thought about A LOT lately is how something like a virus can bond our country and even our world. Politics aside, we’re ALL fighting against one common enemy – COVID-19 and in that it has brought a sense of community – all over the world. In a weird way it has brought people closer (not physically obviously!) and given them more compassion. We’re all showing MORE love to mail carriers, amazon delivery drivers, nurses, food delivery services, etc. and in my eyes, this has been the silver lining through all of the darkness – the expression of gratitude and appreciation now more than ever for EVERYONE.

Now, on to our local heroes! The Thomas Jefferson staff caught the attention of Ellen and the surprise they receive is SO deserved. You’ll feel the Philly pride after this one :). #swabsquad

Stay safe and be well!

It’s hump day – and I certainly hope we’re over the hump of this virus and on our way back to normalcy! I have no more closets/drawers/cabinets to organize and I’ve binged just about everything Netflix has to offer…anyone else? In all seriousness, I am very ready for the sadness and sickness of our world to be lifted. Brighter days are in reach!!!

As always, please pass on any ideas, photos, videos, etc. to marketing@toppersspa.com so we can continue to communicate with our guests. Now, our Disney-loving-Ken has switched hats today and is wearing his Star Wars-loving-Ken hat and has a message. Aside from the really insightful words in the clip, how am I just realizing how ADORABLE Yoda is?!

Hi everyone,

I am hoping to be able to post a personal video today or tomorrow for an update.  There is a lot happening with additional funding for small businesses.  Good things, I think.  I am waiting to hear from my bank representative to get a clearer picture.  BUT, I have faith.

In the meantime, it occurred to me that my Disney/Star Wars dorkiness skewed way heavy on Disney.  So today will be a SWDD (Star Wars Dork Day).

Yoda knows best.

Kens Funding Update

Sunday, April 12, 2020

So, as Kali said – I am Disney and Star Wars nerd.  Or, fan!  I’m fine with either.  Imagine my joy as the two came together.  Disney AND Star Wars.  And with fireworks!  Which I’ve already admitted to LOVING.  So, for today’s DDD (Disney Dork Day) post – I’ll share this.  Not the best video quality but, what a show!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fbz4Z3NOmWk

Be safe and happy Easter.  I’ll be posting another personal video on Monday giving you all an update on what is going on and where we are at.  To not cause worry, I think it will be a positive message.

Be well.  Ken

If you have not seen this video, it is worth the 15 minutes. This is all that is right in the world :).

Sunday, April 5, 2020

Hi all,

I’d do a video but not showering or shaving for 5 days, I thought it best to spare you.  This will be a DDD post. Disney Dork Day.  Kali is right – Disney and Star Wars for me.  Disney World is my “happy place”.  I encourage each of you to connect and revisit with your happy place.  It Helps.

Honestly, Tara and Lucas fight me on staying to see the fireworks shows when we go to Disney.  They fight me … I’m the sole Wyka firework show fan.  My 2 requests are when my time comes, I want a little firework show and have my ashes spread in the Disney World Haunted Mansion.  Specifically by the cats in the graveyard.  Cats that are no where near as cute as Lauren’s baby.  See below!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rTO1RlF12ZU

BTW – I was crushed when they stopped the “Wishes” show.  Actually mad!  Only to find greater happiness with the replacement … Happily Ever After show.  Didn’t think it could be possible.  Yes.  I am clearly a nerd.  Be well and stay safe.  Share and communicate!  Ken

Saturday, April 4, 2020

Hi all,

As I’m sure a number of you are aware of – there have been some issues with some checks from the past payroll.  I am working constantly to get this resolved – personal financing, local, state and federal assistance.  Our bank is also putting me in contact with a “commercial asset manager” next week to discuss funding and restructuring options.  I don’t know what a commercial asset manager is, I just hope it will be of help.  NO ONE in the corporate office was paid.  These were oluntary offers in effort to get as many of you as possible your pay.  I have faith the money will come.  It is just timing.  The BIG federal funding portal doesn’t even open until April 6th.  All other applications available have been submitted.  BUT, the Paycheck Protection Plan is the big help.  Again, April 6th.

I’m also being told the banks are also overwhelmed (SBA help comes through them).  I can only imagine the requests they are getting.  Not to mention unemployment requests.

I just ask for your patience and understanding.  I am doing my best to get $ as soon as possible.  No stone is being left unturned.  Hoping to get payroll kickstarted … again, as soon as possible.  Replacement checks are on their way – specifics will be communicated directly.

Hope you and all of your friends and family are safe and well.

I will continue communications with all of you on toppersspa.com/emergency

If you are not familiar with what Oola is and why it’s been such a pillar of strength and support for all of us, Ken specifically, through all of this, here is a message from him explaining the significance.

Watch this short video first: oola van

(Ken and his wife, Tara, at the Oola conference)

Hi all.  Just wanted to share … what the heck is this Oola? Many have heard me talk about it.  Some have gotten books from me personally. It just came to me at the right time.  When I really needed it.  The book sat on my shelf for a while … I got it free when getting my marathon running bib.  But then, my sister passed away from anorexia -in her 30’s.  I broke the book out for some reason. And wow, those that knew about my sister in the Toppers family … what they did and said. I can’t express my GRATITUDE enough.

Chrissy is the one to the right.

I mean REALLY, REALLY wow. Some even reached out to my Mom. Not to call anyone out but one memorable starts with an “S” and has been at Devon forever. Anyway.  Gratitude. AND I think it led me to Oola.  I am a self-improvement book junkie but this one worked for me best.  So, since I am sharing Oola quotes. Figured I should share where it is all coming from.  Trust me.  I know all of this sucks.  BAD. We are doing our best to just communicate and be positive.  OK, bringing my sister into it may not seem positive on the surface.  BUT I experienced awesomeness from our Toppers family and vendors.  It felt great.  So, just do our best to be kind and support one another.

Be safe.  Ken

A new message from Ken, with a change of scenery but sadly no Dug or Pongo cameos.

IMG_2845

Here’s another fun fact about our fearless leader, Ken…he’s a HUGE Disney nerd AHEM, I mean, Disney lover! I can’t tell which he’s more obsessed with – Disney or Star Wars?! It’s definitely a tough call with him. With that said, it is not uncommon for Ken to play Disney music throughout our office or send us video trailers of the newest rides or attractions in one of the parks. So this came as no surprise when he sent me this video but now I’m seeing things with different eyes during this life altering state that we are in – if this doesn’t give you the warm and fuzzies, I’m not sure what will. Turn off the news for a bit and get lost in the magic. As one of our Spa Director’s recently said, “we’ll get our magic back!” YES. WE. WILL!

Tuesday, March 31, 2020

Be grateful and have faith – bigger, better and brighter days are around the corner!

Monday, March 30, 2020

And so begins another self isolation week, another week of finding something to organize, watching countless shows on Netflix and if you’ve REALLY hit your breaking point, you’ve probably made a few Tik Tok’s. This week, find ways to be active, work on a new skill and watch Tiger King!

The Oola quote below really resonated with me today, probably because it feels eerily relevant. In a strange way, the world is giving us a pause button. In a time where we are seemingly powerless, take control and improve the things that you DO have power over – mind, body, spirit. Make it a good day!

Sunday, March 29, 2020

Saturday, March 28, 2020

We’ve made it through another day of self isolation! I hope your snacks are still plentiful and your Netflix has stopped asking if you’re still watching because, let’s be honest, YES we’re ALL. STILL. WATCHING!

We had a bit of pup jealousy yesterday, so Fiona (Marlton Spa Director, Lauren’s, baby) wanted to make her debut to our crew (sorry, Pongo, you’re not the only cute one in the bunch).

But the REAL star of the show….FALLON! Our Dover Spa Director, Fritzy, has the sweetest little heart breaker on her hands! Look at those shades…

We hope you enjoyed your daily dose of happy :).

Friday, March 27, 2020

Happy Friday! The best thing we can do right now is to stay positive and do our best to smile each day. Here are few things to give you your daily dose of happy :).

This is Ken’s dog, Pongo. If this doesn’t make you smile, I don’t know what will today! IMG_2799

Hi everyone, this page has previously always been used as a way to update you on closures due to weather, however, with the arrival of COVID-19, this page will be updated periodically with additional information from Toppers Corporate so that you are kept up to date. Sadly we are unaware of when we will be allowed to reopen our doors. I know we can all agree that we are extremely eager to resume our normal lives and put this nightmare behind us. Our plan originally was to take things week by week but, as you know, local governments have closed all non-essential businesses. When we know more, you will know more!

While we are all home, if anyone is interested in keeping your name in the forefront of your clients minds and you would like to share some ‘at home health tips’ or ‘how to’ guides on our social pages, email your thoughts and ideas to marketing@toppersspa.com. Once we put this behind us, I can’t think of anything that our guests would need more than some spa and salon time!

Lastly, we want to sincerely apologize for the paycheck issue this past week. At the worst timing imaginable, our payroll company let us know that they have sold their company and that left us in a strange gray area, which unfortunately, effected all of you and us. We know everyone counts on those paychecks to arrive at a timely manner so we can buy food and pay bills. Again, we’re so incredibly sorry that this happened at this time.

We promise to navigate these muddy waters as best we can, as this is all just as new to us as it is to you. We have included the unemployment information below and urge all of you to look into this resource as soon as possible. We know this is an unsettling time for everyone but just know that we are here for you and want to help you in any way that we can.  If there are any other specific questions you may have, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your Spa Director or email us at info@toppersspa.com. We can’t promise we will have all of the answers immediately but we can promise that we will try our best.

Please stay safe and healthy.

In light of the challenges we are facing with the COVID-19 outbreak and the temporary closure of our business, we strongly urge all of you to look into unemployment until we have a clear idea of when we will return to business as usual. Below are the links you will need to get started:

I am hoping to be able to post a personal video today or tomorrow for an update.  There is a lot happening with additional funding for small businesses.  Good things, I think.  I am waiting to hear from my bank representative to get a clearer picture.  BUT, I have faith.

In the meantime, it occurred to me that my Disney/Star Wars dorkiness skewed way heavy on Disney.  So today will be a SWDD (Star Wars Dork Day).

Yoda knows best.

Hi everyone,

Don’t know if any of you tuned into the Together at Home show on Saturday.  Was pretty great.  I especially found the Kerry Washington segment to be helpful … and insightful.

Give it a watch!

Disney Sing Along

For those of you that missed out on this (see the video above). At the risk of legal risk from disney. Just awesome. If I don’t wind up in jail. You will hopefully get more clips… it was just GREAT. I’m a low tech guy so…….. well videos off my TV might be how you you get stuff from me.

Truly thinking of all of you. Hope you are staying safe.

Take care. Ken

PS….. the finale with Michael Buble and Demi Lovato was just too much for today

But it is coming!

Be well.  Ken

If you have never seen this, it is hands down the most inspiring speech and message I’ve EVER heard. I’ve included an abbreviated version but I strongly suggest watching the full video. It will fill you with hope, strength, drive, perspective and so much more.

Ken

WE. WILL!

IMG_2799

FUN FACT: The corporate team are HUGE Brady Bunch fans – any one else?! This song will be in my head all day! Get out in the sun today! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-4FprR_LNSU
